Ages ago, when the Western Marshes were still clear and nothing haunted the wetlands and the roots of the trees that grew there, the Fae gave birth to a child named Migmatine. Migmatine was said to be the most handsome elf ever to be born within the fae’s forests and all the fae acknowledged this fact. But alas, he lived for decades without loving another because his beauty was so much greater than any of his suitors, for who could ever match his beauty?
One day the Fae Council took notice of this fact and called for him to convene with them. On this day the fairy princess warned him not to be concerned with one’s outward appearance, that true beauty is found within. Repulsed by this idea Migmatine ran away from the Mound and deep into the Western Marshes where the pools of sparkling water reflected back his appearance.
When he had retreated into the deepest depths of the marshes he was suddenly startled by a frog splashing into a crystal clear pool that reflected back the branches that arched overhead. Migmatine turned and bent beside the pool to investigate the noise and saw his own reflection staring back. Overcome by his own beauty he moved to take hold of the lovely face and caress the beautiful creature staring back.
The elf leaned too far and fell into the deep pool, struggling for life, but eventually failing and meeting his demise. The gods were saddened by the loss of such beauty and decided to grow a single flower of equal beauty that grew alongside the pool. This flower was stumbled upon by the party that searched for the lost beauty and was brought back to the Mound, but the Fae Council despised its representation of something they had tried so hard to prevent and ordered its removal.
However, Migmatine’s mother saved it and brought it to Spirit where the flower took seed and began to blossom and fill the city with its sweet scent. But all is not well, for Migmatine does not rest easy. He still haunts the marshes, searching for someone as beautiful as him, even though with basilisks and thestrals to keep him company he may be at it for quite some time.
