"Actually, I'm sixteen,"
Calandra nodded, "I'm so used to being around other daemons. It makes it very difficult to tell age just by appearance." Her outh curved into a wry smile, "At least I was close." She finished skinning the rabbits about the same time Lael came back with the twigs.
"Is this enough?"
Calandra nodded, showing her sharp teeth in a smile. She gathered the twigs into a small pile and held one gloved hand over it. She began to snap and sparks began to fly. Soon a small blaze was going in front of them. It was around this time she heard someone wandering around the bushes.
"Oh, hello there. Nice day for a stroll, isn't it?"
Calandra turned to see a young Fae boy with what seemed to be ear of some cat. A changleing perhaps? She started to cook the rabbits, waving to the boy. "Hello Fae boy, would you like to join us?"

Ooc:// Bleh, An okay post, with an awful ending. ;P/
Jean wove among tangled tree's branches, high above the ground under him. He was clad in a full-body cloak, over belted breeches and black-laced leather boots. The Daemon took a deep, weary breath, then inhaled sharply, smelling food being cooked. Sadly, that reminded him just how hungry he was.
Jean hadn't eaten in about three days between traveling to the next town. Because of this, he was unable to hunt, seeing as his only weapon was a double-sided obsidian blade attached to a chain and handle.
As quiet as he was afoot, Jean was far too squeamish to kill an animal up close with his blade, even for food, so he preferred to wait. Assassin contracts were fine, he could never bring himself to kill an animal like he did with jobs. He was far too used to buying or stealing small bits of food for survival. Animals were too respectable, but people are greedy, and always inclined to wrong others.
The cloaked Daemon turned West, toward the smell of food, and continued, silent to even the most alert of ears. Jean found himself over the campfire, and made his way down. The branches of the trees swayed naturally, barely bending from his lean, lightweight frame. He lifted his hood over his pointed horns and swung backward, catching himself behind the knees on the branch an hanging upside-down, right face-to-face with a woman wearing a Warrior's armor adorned with eagle's wing patterns. She had the wings and eyes that could belong to none other than the Steppe Eagle itself.
Jean flipped backward off of the branch, and onto his feet, hood still shading his face. He turned to face the Daemon woman and bowed gracefully. He then turned to the Fae boy that was, evidently, there too and did the same. "Greetings. I was attracted by the smell of fire, I do hope I'm not intruding..." He said in a quiet, silky voice.
Jean then spotted the shifter girl, and immediately averted his deep-violet eyes, his face flushing. He pulled his cloak off, over his head, revealing black, tribal tattoos over his entire body, down to his gold-buckled belt and breeches. Down his shoulders and back were small spikes, evenly spaced, bearing the same shade of tan as the horns on his head. Hanging at his belt was his Chain-Blade, which jingled, protesting the sudden sharp movement.
Jean bowed deeply, offering his cloak to the Shifter. "Take this Mi'lady, so you wont catch a cold." He murmured politely, turning back to the others.

Well that was interesting. Cadrian had half-expected the daemon woman to do, well, something, but that fear had popped up when he had seen her skinning knife. That thing looked like it was perfectly capable of skinning him. So it was a pleasant surprise when she offered him food instead.
A grin formed on his lips. "Well, I can't really turn it down, now can I? Since you offered that is," the boy said happily, beaming at the pair. He trotted toward them, plopping down next to the shifter/human (he had never been good at distinguishing between the pair) and looking toward the roasting meat. Honestly, Cadrian wasn't sure how he felt about the shifter/human - after all, his species was with war with them. Now, he wasn't exactly a model citizen, and he knew that, but Cadrian still had loyalties to his species. They were smell loyalties, but they were loyalties.
One look at her, though, and Cade decided she didn't really count as a shifter/human (God he wished he knew which she was...). The little thing looked like she couldn't fighter her way out a wet paper bag, and she seemed to be incredibly timid, if the smile she offered his way was any indication. She didn't seem like a threat. Cadrian decided he had no opinion of her; but, of course, he treated her like he treated all strangers. His grin on his lips, Cade looked between the two females. "I'm Cadrian. What are your names?"
His ears perked at the sudden new voice. Cadrian watched in amusement as the new daemon, a male, bowed toward the female daemon and himself - he had never been bowed to before, and the boy decided that he rather liked it. His amusement rose as the daemon took one look at the shifter/human and seemed to blush, unclasping his cloak and giving it to her. What? Couldn't handle a little nakedness? "If she wants to be naked, let her be naked. There's no harm in it." Cadrian, being a fae, had run around naked a lot. Fae had no shame when it came to displaying their bodies, as they all thought that their bodies were beautiful. It could be considered vain; it could be considered natural. He supposed it depended on the viewer.
Only then did he notice the horns and the spikes, which were shiny and caught his attention. However, they looked dangerous - avoid. The gold belt-buckle on the other hand... Cadrian stared at it, and he grinned mentally. He wanted it. A lot. Now, how would he con the daemon into giving it to him?

"It's ok." Lael smiled happily. "You were close. I'm turning seventeen sometime later this year." To be exact, on the fourth of December. A late birthday, but close to the new year. Now that Lael had mostly gotten over her fear of Calandra, she didn't mind her sharp teeth any more. Or at least, when she smiled.
Her eyes widened as Calandra began to snap, sending sparks flying from her gloved hands to settle on the twigs and produce flames. That was pretty amazing to her--someone who had never even really dreamed of starting a fire by herself.
She looked at the fae, he seemed very carefree but careful at the same time. And he couldn't resist the offer of food. Lael didn't mind. She didn't know how much Calandra ate, but she didn't think that she would be able to finish one of those rabbits by herself. And company was rather good. Somewhat good. As long as she didn't need to fight.
"I'm Cadrian. What are your names?"
Lael blinked. Why should she not have anticipated that question coming? It was a natural obvious question that she had a natural, obvious answer for. "Lael," She answered automatically, eyes watching the meat roast for a while.
That was, until something else arrived. Her first impression (probably as everyone else's) was that he was cloaked. And he was polite, bowing to the others. But he wasn't very comfortable with her nudity, not everyone was. He couldn't be a human unless humans had suddenly learned to sneak up soundlessly onto others, so she didn't really know what he was.
"Take this Mi'lady, so you wont catch a cold."
Polite, very polite. And nice. Her assuming mind immediately notice. "Ah, thank you." She blinked, slightly startled as she reached for the cloak, drawing it around herself. Her first impression was that it was warm. Somehow, it had managed to draw a little warmth into her cheeks. Looking up to see his uncovered form, she blinked in surprise. He looked... dangerous. That was the only word that she could find to describe him right now. But he was nice. She should repay him. Nodding to the fire, she asked, "Would you like to join us?"
Ah, he was... daemon. He had the same glint in his eyes as Calandra had. But Calandra had proven to her that not all daemons were evil and this daemon, whoever he was, had offered her his cloak. Although she didn't think that she was going to catch a cold, she was grateful for it anyways. She looked to Calandra, hoping that she didn't mind. This certainly wasn't Lord Gabriel and she wondered if Calandra knew who the daemon was. "You have a beautiful voice," She suddenly found herself blurting out. Ah, oops, she hadn't meant to do that. Looking down, she blushed. Lael hoped that she didn't offend him in any way.

Calandra smiled at Lael's obvious fascination with how she started the fire. She held out a hand, palm up and pointed to a small spot on her thumb. "It has flint." she told the girl simply, letting her hand drop back down.
A daemon showed up and immediately became flustered by Lael's lack of clothing. After giving her a cloak he joined them. Apparently chivalry wasn't dead. That said he was still far more polit than she had ever seen. It was strange to see in one so young.
Calandra looked him up and down, studying the swirling ink patterns on his skin. The tattooist who had done it must have been very skilled. It also showed he had a high pain-threshold. Or he had gotten really drunk.
The Fae boy came to sit next to Lael, staring quite hungrily at the food and then at the new arrival's belt. Klepto or just easily distracted? Either way, Calandra decided to keep and eye on her sword, just in case.
"I'm Calandra." she glanced over to the daemon and waved him over. "You got a name Spike? You're welcome to eat with us. Hell, it will be like a party without the booze or crowds." She chuckled, suddenly wishing she did have some alcohol. Oh well, plenty of time for that once she made it to a city.
Calandra lifted the rabbits from the flames and stabbed each one with her dagger to see if it was fully cooked. Thankfully it was. She cut them into more or less equal portions, putting them on extra sticks Lael had gathered. "Here you are, rabbit kebabs." The daemon bit into a piece and was surprised at just how good it tasted. Those birds really knew their stuff.
"You have a beautiful voice,"
The daemon struggled not to laugh and barely succeeded. Lael really was naive. To say your thoughts even when you didn't mean to was an interesting trait indeed.
However, in an attempt to not make Lael more embarrased than she already looked, Calandra kept he expression neutral and pretended not to notice. "So, what brings you two here?" It was rather curious to meet so many in the Tangle, but at least these two looked like they could protect themselves.

Lael? Wasn't that a male's name? Cadrian took a good long look at the shifter - she couldn't be a human, he had finally decided, because humans had this thing about running about naked. No... she was most definitely female. She had all the female bits. So why did she have a male name? Perhaps her mother wanted a boy? With a shrug, the boy decided to forget about it. After all, it wasn't that big of a deal; it was just a name.
A hungry grin pulled at his lips as Calandra, the female daemon, put the cooked rabbit on sticks and passed them out. Cade took his eagerly, biting into one of the juicy pieces and savoring the wonderful taste; some of the grease tried to slide down his chin, but the changeling quickly wiped it away. As he ate, his sharp teeth were exposed. They were longer than normal, but they weren't quite as long as Calandra's fangs, which he had noticed when she took a bite of her own food.
A beautiful voice? He paused in mid-bite to stare at Lael, one eyebrow quirked in confusion. Not many people would just come out and say something like that to someone they had just met, especially to someone as intimidating looking as the male daemon. Those spikes looked wickedly sharp and dangerous; the fae decided he would prefer to not be speared by one of those, though it was unlikely that would happen.
"So, what brings you two here?"
He supposed he counted as one of the two. Swallowing the bite of food he had in his mouth, Cadrian granted Calandra a toothy smile. "Nothing too terribly important for me. There's this particular flower that grows out here - with golden, shiny petals that reflect in rainbow colors when the sun hits it - and I wanted to find it. I remember it from when I was younger." That had been his favorite flower. It was too bad he couldn't remember the name of it...
"As for Spikey, I couldn't tell you." Cadrian shrugged his slim shoulders again, taking another hearty bite of the rabbit. Aww... his kebab was almost gone... How depressing.

Jean's sharp violet eyes traced along the small group. They were being awfully hospitable, having just met him. He heard something about joining them and nodded slowly. "Thank You..." It was a bit odd. Were they all stangers to eachother? Then Jean realized that the Shifter girl, Lael, had spoken.
"You have a beautiful voice,"
Jean stared at her in disbeleif. Huh...? He tilted his head to one side, realizing that what she had said was directed at him. The Daemon's face flushed again; he always blushed so easily. "I-Uh.... What?" Jean had hardly been complimented before, especially by a Shifter, one that he didn't even know. Through all of the many tattoos, the spikes, and the fangs, she commented on his voice...? "I-.... Thank you.... I think."
All of a sudden, a kebab was given to him. He winced, passing it to the Fae with a heartbroken look on his pale face. Storebought meat was fine, but this went a little bit too far. "I-I don't eat animals.... Very often." Truthfully, he was far too squeamish and had never hunted in his life.

"Nothing too terribly important for me. There's this particular flower that grows out here - with golden, shiny petals that reflect in rainbow colors when the sun hits it - and I wanted to find it. I remember it from when I was younger."
Calandra's eyes glinted, her mouth curved into an interested smile. "It sounds beautiful, I do not believe I have ever had the pleasure of seeing one." The daemon had always had a weakness for flowers, ever since Gabriel had showed her one from the Forest of the Fae after one of his many travels. Flowers and forests. Those had to be Calandra's favorite part of life on the road.
"I-I don't eat animals.... Very often."
Calandra raised a puzzled eyebrow. A male daemon who didn't eat meat? That was almost unheard of. Most daemon-kind were voracious carnivores, the vegetarians were often looked down on. It was strange to see such a squeamish expression on such a dangerous looking individual, even more so since he seemed to be a reptillian daemon of some sort. Were there even any reptiles that didn't eat meat?
Calandra gave a mental shrug and dismissed the thought. It was none of her business and Cadrian seemed to want more anyway. She finished off the tasty kebab and set the foodless stick in the dirt next to her.

Needless to say, Cadrian was incredibly surprised when the spikey, tattoo-covered daemon handed him the rabbit on a stick, saying that he didn't eat meat often. Amber eyes flicked to the daemon, and Cade raised an eyebrow at him. He himself was a fae; he still ate meat. It was part of the balance, after all. The world was cruel. It was natural for animals to eat other animals. But, hey, who was he to complain?
Happily, the fae took the stick, finishing off his first before starting on the second. As he bit into the rabbit, Cadrian grinned at the daemon. "I've never met a daemon who didn't eat meat, but hey, doesn't bother me. Thanks for letting me eat your food, Spikes!"
Cade really didn't care that 'Spikes' probably wasn't the daemon's name. Until he gave the boy a different name to use, Cade was going to use 'Spikes' or 'Spikey'.
His gaze flicked to the other daemon, Calandra, and he grinned at her as well. "And thanks for making it. It's really, really delicious," the boy offered, letting his sharp teeth sink into the rabbit once more. It wasn't long until that portion of food was gone as well, and Cadrian tossed both sticks to the side. "Well, that was delicious." The changeling made a content noise in the back of his throat, something that sounded kind of like a purr, and stretched his arms above his head before plopping backwards, basking in the patch of sunlight he was laying in.
Well, this trip to the Tangle hadn't been so bad so far. He had gotten free food and now he had some interesting company (or at least he hoped) to talk to. Hey, maybe they'd even help him find that flower. Speaking of which, the boy really needed to remember the name of it... Cadrian racked his brain but it didn't help. Ah well. Maybe he'd just call it... the Shiny-Petaled-Flower-That-Turns-Rainbow-In-The-Sun for now. ... Or maybe something else.

Flint... ah, that made sense--more or less. Flint was that material that people used to make sparks and light up fires and other stuff, right? Yes, that must have been it, seeing Calandra had lit up the twigs like that. What made sense should be right.
She took one of the smaller portions (by only a bit!) and nibbled on it. It was good, surprisingly good, but somehow Lael didn't think that she would be able to finish this all. The fae seemed ravenous and Calandra seemed to more or less eat with the same gust. And maybe her comments were a little random, seeing the fae was rather surprised by this. Well, it was the truth to her and she disliked telling lies. That's why she told the truth. But she was more worried about the daemon; she hoped that she hadn't offended him. After all, he had been nice enough to give her his cloak.
But even he seemed rather taken aback by the sudden comment. She looked down and took another nibble at the rabbit, feeling more heat come to her cheeks as the daemon stumbled over her comment. "I... thank you, I think..." He had managed to reply more or less. At this, Lael perked up again, smiling. "You're welcome!" She replied happily. "And I'm Lael." She added as a little piece of information. Lael somewhat disliked nicknames, since all those that had tried to be invented for her were unsatisfactory. Well, to tell the truth, they were all cheesy and sucked. The flower that the fae mentioned... she hadn't heard of it, but it sounded nice and bright and colorful. Lael liked all those things, but had never heard of such a flower. A pretty flower like that deserved some kind of name. "Golden rainbow flower perhaps?" She suggested. Well, it was the best thought that came to her mind for now. And saying the description just to mention the flower was a bit much. "I-I don't eat animals... very often."Lael glanced up at the daemon that the fae had referred to as Spikes. Well, she could see why, but still... Why didn't he? Animals provided meat and meat was usually one of the main foods that people needed to survive. "If you don't eat meat, what will you eat then?" She asked, slightly fearful. The daemon didn't seem very... well fed and looked rather thin. Maybe he couldn't find anything to his liking. Well, if he didn't, Lael would help. Uhm... ignoring the fact that he looked dangerous, that was.

"And I'm Lael."
She had a nice name. It was normally a male's name, but hey, he had a girl name. "Lael... Hm. I'm Jean."
"If you don't eat meat, what will you eat then?"
Jean frowned, his fangs poking out from his mouth. "Why, I eat little Shifters of course." One corner of his mouth quirked, in what could have been a good-natured smile, looking rather innocent. Jean glanced around at the trees for a moment before turning back to Lael. "No, I eat whatever I can get. I still eat meat, but not fresh. As a wanderer, I don't normally find the opportunity to get food on a regular basis."
Jean turned suddenly to the Fae. "You are looking for a golden flower, I take it?" He reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a small book, leafing quickly through the pages. The Daemon turned the book around so the boy could see the small golden flower flattened between the book's pages. "Is this the one you were looking for...?"

"I'm Jean." Well, perhaps she wasn't the only one with that strange a name. Jean was a nice name and it sounded, well, harmless. Harmless like Jean seemed without the spikes. His face for one didn't look harmless (if you didn't count the fangs) and the horns. The horns weren't that bad either.
"Why, I eat little Shifters of course." With that, Lael shut her mouth, clamping down on the rabbit a little forcefully. But watching Jean, he didn't seem to want to eat her. Instead, a corner of his mouth twitched. Perhaps that was his version of a smile. And that brought another question to Lael's mind. But before she managed to quiz him about it, he had taken out a book where a golden petaled flower was pressed. It looked, well, pretty. Pretty and golden and cheery. And then the shifter remembered her question. "Jean, why don't you smile?" She asked curiously, looking up at him. She was truly curious about the answer. She smiled, Calandra smiled, the fae smiled, but she hadn't seen Jean's yet. In fact, he seemed reluctant to smile. Why was that?

"Jean, why don't you smile?"
The Daemon was genuinely startled by the question. He pondered on the reason, opened his mouth, closed it, and opened it once more, devoid of the words to describe his answer. "Lael," He began, glancing sidelong at her. "There are a lot of things to smile at. Also a lot of things to not..." This was probably the most words ever had he said at once. Jean's dark eyes glinted with amusement. With that he added, "And, I don't think you would wish to know my.... Occupation."
Jean dropped the small book on the ground at the Fae Boy, Cadrian's, feet, still opened to the page of the tiny golden wildflower. Inside that book, filling half of the pages, were petals, flowers, and leaves the Daemon had collected in his many travels.
Sadly, he was fascinated by plants, and had sketched out pictures of the plants he had wanted to find, some of which had a leaf near it to show he had found that particular plant.
Jean gestured toward the book, looking at Cadrian. "You can look through it if you so wish." He murmured softly, barely audible through the many sounds of the forest. It wasn't quite that late at the moment, and he didn't mind staying for a bit longer...

"Golden rainbow flower maybe?"
A laugh emitted from his throat, and Cade turned his head to look at the shifter. He grinned at her, his sharp little fangs exposed. "Neh, that's a good description. But maybe not such a good name, right? I mean, it deserves a better name than that!" The fae closed his eyes, his grin turning into a content smile. It was actually pretty cute. Of course, Cadrian was cute. Ridiculously cute. It was in his blood, however, to look absolutely cute and adorable. That was just part of his breeding.
"Is this the one you were looking for...?"
Immediately, Cadrian shot up, staring at the flower that Jean had shown to him. A happy grin played on his face. "Yeah! That's it!" He watched as the daemon laid the book by his feet, giving him free reign over it. Practically purring with delight, the boy lifted the book and began to flip through the pages, looking through the flowers. Most of them were boring, but there were a few that caught his attention - the shiny or the colorful flowers, of course.
"Where'd you find all these?" he asked, flicking his amber gaze from the book to the daemon. Again, the shiny belt bucket caught his attention, and the changeling fidgeted just slightly. It was hardly noticeable, but it did happen. He wanted that... It was just so shiny! And it looked valuable.

Now that Lael mentioned it, she was right. Spikes, or Jean, was rather closed for a daemon male as young as he looked. Most were prideful, greedy, or violent, but Jean seemed naive, almost timid. And far more polite than most. It was downright unnatural.
And Cadrian, now that she noticed, was rather adorable. He had that innocent kitten look to him, one common in most changelings she had seen. He reminded the daemon of a pet almost more than a person. But the intelligent glint of his eyes and slight devious air was enough to shake that thought. More likely than not Cadrian was a thief.
Nonetheless, Calandra watched Cadrian flip through the book with great interest. The daemon had always loved flowers, but she just wasn't organized enough to catalogue them like that. It was an interesting idea, perhaps when she made it to a city she would buy a book like that.
"Could I see that after you?" Calandra asked, leaning against a tree. The flower looked somewhat familiar, like a variation of one found in Dreamland. "And that flower you are looking for Cadrian, it wouldn't by chance be called a Witchlight bloom, would it?"
The daemon gave a small smile, "It was an old favorite of mine, but I could be mistaken. Some flowers that grow naturally in the Dreamland can be replanted over here. Especially in dark places like the Tangle."

His amber gaze lifted from the book of flowers that Jean had let him look through to Calandra, grinning in her direction. “Sure! Here you go, go ahead and take a look. I’ve pretty much looked through it by now.” Cade handed the book to the daemon. He then blinked in surprise and stared at her as she offered up a name for him.
Witchlight Bloom… That did sound somewhat familiar…
The mammalian changeling, small and young, sat watching his mother as she tended to her little garden in the Tangle. The woman sang a cheery tune as she flitted around the flowers and vegetables. She stopped at one flower, giving it plenty of water, before the woman looked up, staring at her son sitting across from her. A strange, unstable look was in her eyes.
“Do you know what flower this is, Cade?”
The boy blinked, his amber eyes finding the flower. It was golden and as the sun hit the petal they reflected rainbow colors over the female changeling’s hands, which were cupped gently around the beautiful flower. The shine and color of the flower kept his attention, and Cadrian stood, walking forward a few steps. Just before he reached the garden, however, the tether that connected to the dark blue collar around his throat tugged him back, refusing to let him go any farther.
The woman didn’t seem to notice. She smiled happily, insanely happily, at her son. “It’s called a Witchlight Bloom. It comes from Dream Land, you know. Those daemons… they certainly have appeal, don’t they?” The woman laughed, standing from her crouched position and trotting toward her son. They didn’t look much alike, except for their eyes. Their eyes were the same.
Well, except that the woman’s eyes held insanity while the boy’s eyes were stable.
Her hands lifted, cupping around her son’s face. She kissed his forehead gently, pulling back to stare at him. “Maybe one day we can go to Dream Land. How does that sound? Hm?”
The memory was there, sharp and clear. But, to anyone else, it just looked as if Cadrian had remembered the name of the flower; there was no pain at the sudden memory - there wasn’t any sadness. The boy looked back to Calandra and grinned, nodding once. “Yeah, that’s the name of it. I remember it now. Do you have any idea where it grows around here?”
Hey, if she liked the flower too, maybe they could find it together. Besides, she looked tough. Cadrian certainly didn’t mind running around with a tough looking daemon, especially If one of the Tangle creatures decided to try and make lunch of him.

Lael looked up eagerly at the sound of her name. By the looks of it, Jean was going to give her an answer. What would the answer be? The fallen celestial was strangely intrigued.
"There are a lot of things to smile at. Also a lot of things to not..."
The shifter blinked. That wasn't the answer that she had expected, but the mention of things not to smile at... that was not a suitable answer. All the more reason to smile. If not... if not you wouldn't smile again, like what was happening to Jean right now. Lael frowned. That wasn't good. She hoped that nothing like that happened to her. And that would be a reason why she shouldn't ask about his occupation--no matter how much she wanted to know. She shook her head with a frown, sending her blond hair flying around.
"That's why you should smile!" Lael exclaimed. "If not, everything will be a thing that you shouldn't smile at." She frowned with a protest. She looked around for an example. The book of flowers, right. "Like flowers! Flowers are something nice, so you should smile. There are good things like that to smile at!" She nodded vigorously. She herself didn't share the similar interest in flowers, but she could see that Calandra and the fae had that interest.

Jean Stared at Lael's rather impatient expression, his mouth etched into an amused line as he listened to her madly trying to tell him that he should smile more. "I can see that that wasn't nearly explanation enough." He wove his slender clawed fingers into his hair, letting out a stressed sigh. "Fine, Want to know the real reason...?" A Rhetorical question. A bad habit. He probably shouldn't use those with Lael in his presence.
"Well... Because of my job, I don't really like to smile, not that I hate my job. I love my job." The Daemon fiddled with the obsidian earrings in his pointed ears. "When I smile... Let's just say I'm not intimidating enough for what I do." Jean sighed. Another new record for 'most words said within a minute' in his book. Jean was telling her too much. The last thing he wanted was for an innocent little Shifter to be frightened of him because he was an Assassin...

"I can see that that wasn't nearly explanation enough."
"No it wasn't!" Lael agreed with a pout. She wanted a good answer. She hadn't seen Jean smile before, but she was sure that it would be a pretty one. He really should smile. And she wanted to know the reason, so she listened attentively.
"Well... Because of my job, I don't really like to smile, not that I hate my job. I love my job."
Well, what job didn't require smiling even though you loved it? Jean was a strange daemon. Calandra smiled sometimes, and definitely a lot more than Jean and she already was intimidating with a smile. It was scary sometimes if she smiled. Jean could be like that too, couldn't he? And there were different types of smiles, happy smiles, small smiles, big smiles, sad smiles (although it didn't count!) and scary smiles.
"Well, I think Calandra can look scary with a smile... sometimes." She said, hoping that the winged daemon wouldn't take offense to that statement. "And are you doing a job now?" She had half a mind to go follow him and see what he was up to.

The daemon stalked the forest undergrowth expertly, a smaller feline beside him. The daemon's bright blue eye flashed as he sprang over a fallen tree trunk with the cat following soon after. Just as it touched the ground, the Bastaet lifted one paw, sniffing the air. It gave a small mew, catching the daemon's attention before starting off in a different direction. Trusting the creature, Rio followed. He wasn't taking any of his experience into account, but instead, relied purely on Sieg's senses. By now, he trusted his companion to know what was best within this forest.
After a few moments of walking, Rio was able to pick up the scent of cooking meat. He was not hungry, but Sieg looked disappointed; the souls of the prey were probably already gone. Nevertheless, the cat slunk forwards, leading the daemon to follow trustingly. Near enough, Rio could pick out voices, familiar voices. One of them was Calandra's. Deciding that it would be best to appear somewhere near Calandra, he picked a different direction, leading Sieg to follow his lead now. There. That was good. Quietly, like a shadow, he appeared beside Calandra, Sieg curling his lip and stubbornly sticking at Rio's heel. "Calandra..." He addressed the senior daemon.
