Above: A picture of the Northern Tangle on a pleasant spring afternoon.
The Northern Tangle has the most vast array of flora and fauna in all of Litharia. Squirrels, foxes, jaguars, and badgers. Carnivorous plants, beautiful wild flowers, oaks, and pines. Unicorns, ogres, kelpies, and chimeras. That’s to name a few…It is a prime spot for hunting. Just hope that you are not the prey. Your flesh is as valuable to the carnivorous forest beasts as their hides are to you…
Those fae who manage to live there must be cunning. Every day is a fight for survival. No matter what you are there will be something that wants to eat you. Guaranteed. It is nearly impossible to move through the thick forest undetected. If the rustle of plants does not alert nearby predators, your scent will. Those fae who make the Northern Tangle their home must be as fierce as the unforgiving land they live in.
It is not suggested that anyone visit the Northern Tangle as a vacation trip. That being said, it could very well be a profitable visit if you are not devoured. Unicorn horns are worth a fortune for their healing properties (though a live unicorn can only be touched by a virgin else its magic will fade!). Various body parts of the other beasts are worth a lot as well. Claws of chimeras, fangs of basilisks, and the hide of ogres are particularly favored.
Most notable is the phoenix feather. Only one phoenix exists in all of Litharia and it makes its nest in the center of the Tangle. It cannot be killed. Should you try, it will simply turn into a pile of ash to be reborn the next day. The only way to get a feather is to bring the phoenix a gift it finds pleasing (PM Fate to play with the phoenix). Only one legend mentions that there may be a way to tame the phoenix, and thereby gain as many feathers as you could ever desire. The details of this legend have been lost.
