So we know lots about the main geographical features and "intelligent" species of Litharia, but what of the animals? There are dragons in the cliffs of heaven...but other than that, there is little information on the native creatures. I thought it would be fun to come up with fantastical animals that would inhabit Litharia (with Cat's permission, of course)! I, of course, would want to draw a few and post them, which is why I put this thread in the pictures board...but whether you draw the animal, find a google image of something you like, or even describe the creature through poetry, it would be nice to know what animals our characters would be used to dealing with.
I don't know if the creatures would be the "usual" fantasy animals (griffins, manticores, unicorns, etc.) or if they could be something completely made up. I'd probably have fun making up one or two...but let's see where this goes c: It would be fun to have Tondra ride a Griffin (although, with her wings, this might be redundant). Or for Mot to befriend a basilisk. Or maybe Aura can be bffs with a real cougar...:]
What do you guys think?

Shadow Dragons
(if a better name is thought of, let me know. This is all I can come up with on 2 hours of sleep c;)
Like imperial dragons, shadows are four-legged, have wings, and spines; they are slightly smaller than imperials, and tend to be extremely shy.
The shadows are almost a myth due to this shyness. They rarely allow other creatures to see them. This is further influenced by their chameleon-like ability to change their hide color according to their surroundings. No one knows their true color; no shadow dragon birth has ever been witnessed.
Unlike the imperials, shadows are not treasure hoarders. They are not as intelligent as imperials and live like any other reptile, hunting and breeding to survive. Shadows only live for about 200 years, and a shadow can only produce one offspring in their lifetime, making these creatures especially rare.
(I might draw what I think they look like later...unless I get lazy and just google image it, haha c:)

Arana
The Arana are a species of giant arachnid that have seemingly emerged from Dream Land. An unknown number inhabit the Daemon Tunnels, only one of which has been named officially in the Elvish records. This particular specimen is a female called Quenya, and is the only known tamed Arana. She responds exclusively to a Fairy named Xaviere (who was the one to name her) although taming these creatures is just like taming any other - you just need to know the specifics of how. Xaviere stumbled on the right combination of behaviours and characteristics to prevent Quenya eating her, but has thus far shared the knowledge with no-one.
- These spiders are roughly the size of a large horse at full maturity, which they reach after approximately one hundred years
- Their life span is approximately six hundred years, during which time a female lays a single clutch of eggs numbering no more than ten
- They are solitary except when mating and, coming from Dream Land, are weakened by sunlight to such an extent that they have never been known to emerge from the Tunnels
- It is rare to stumble upon these creatures by accident, so there are probably very few in Litharia at this point in time
- They possess superior intelligence to average arachnids and show some signs of planning and logical thinking in their trap designs
- They will eat anything that strays into their web; this tends to be extensive, and may cover hundreds of metres of their territory within the tunnels
- The silk they weave is exceptionally strong and light, and highly sought after by garment-crafters
- They are powerfully venomous; a bite will kill the average sized Litharian within a few minutes
- All of them possess surprisingly beautiful golden eyes and different degrees of purple colouring

Facts About Canicus':
- They are born from the volcano on Shifter Island, because of this they are surrounded by an aura of red flames
- Often mistaken for the phoenix they are virtually unrelated, the primary method of telling the two apart are the Canicus' blue legs and chest diamond
- They do have feathers that emit the fire and can fall out during molting
- These feathers are used to make heated pillows and beds as though the ability to create fire disappears with the removal of the feather the feathers still produce heat
- They live forever due to their ability to be reborn from the volcano
- They "burn out" every six months or so and become ash, they are also able to burst into flames and turn to ash whenever a predator threatens them, their life force then returns to the volcano where the same bird is virtually reborn
- Intelligent creatures they delight in fooling humanoid species into believing they are the phoenix
- Most prefer to live on Shifter Island, but some venture to the main land and inhabit the forests of the Fae
- They are about the size of a medium sized dog with bright blue legs and blue chest markings
- They tend to hoard the glassy black volcanic obsidian that hardens on the volcano's sides and guard them in their nest
- Most return to their nests to "burn out", this is the best times to catch the baby birds and keep them as a source of feathers, as they emerge from the volcanic rim
- After being reborn they take about a week to reach full size again and will usually molt only once during a six month period
