The Wolverine Tribe is a strange, dangerous group of humans, at least in the eyes of the other humans. They do not worship the normal Gods and Goddesses. In fact, their deity of choice is in fact an animal, which they worship even in the naming of their tribe; the wolverine. An animal of great strength and speed, and the only animal who kills for fun. Tribesman long ago witnessed the creature in action, followed its movements, and decided that they would base their life around the wolverine.
Members of this tribe are all strong, trained to fight when they reach their seventh year of life so that they can partake in the tribe rituals and defend themselves readily. The tribe does not discriminate between gender, so both males and females are trained in the same way. At the age of ten, the children are separated into groups depending on how well they did during their training. They will train in their specific calling and will have that job until they are unable.
Those who lacked the proper abilities during training are put into the Chore Class, which includes the gatherers, builders, breeders, babysitters, teachers, etc.
Those who passed the training go into the Sub Class, which includes the hunters and trainers.
And, those who excelled in their training are put into the Elite Class, otherwise known as the Wolverine Warriors. These are the men and women who defend the tribe from intruders and who go on raids.
Every three months, a ritual is held where every member of the tribe offers a sacrifice to the wolverine. The sacrifice must have a living, beating heart, and can be anything from a small animal to a humanoid. The intelligence of the sacrifice matters in this tribe; it doesn't take much to catch a squirrel, but a Fae or Human takes wit and skills. Depending on the sacrifice you come up with decides how you are treated for the next three months. If you do not come up with a sacrifice, then you are banished from the tribe.
Money is void in the Wolverine Tribe. Everyone helps make the tribe, so everyone helps share the bounties. Gatherers and hunters must share their food, just as builders, jewelers, etc. must share their goods and services.
The Wolverine Tribe is nomadic, traveling from place to place.
There is a leader of the tribe, and the leader can be either male or female. The best warrior is chosen from the Elite Class. There is also a shaman, who is usually an elder and highly skilled in magic.
The tribe considers everyone family, whether you are blood-related or not. Even if your sacrifice was the smallest of the ritual, a tribesman will still aid you when it comes down to it. Touch is a big thing in the tribe, a gesture of love and trust. However, if an outsider were to try to touch a member, they would be chastised at best and decapitated at worst. The tribe does not trust outsiders easily. The only way to be expelled from the tribe is by not having a sacrifice or by killing another member of the tribe. It is rare that someone from the outside is allowed to join the tribe, and so far only humans have been allowed.
And, I totally wouldn't be opposed if anyone else wanted to be a part of this tribe. All they have to do is ask. ^^;
