There was mud on his new slacks already. While this annoyed him, he tried to ignore the grime and focus on the task ahead. Some Daemons resided not in Dream land, but in the tunnels, and Mot had a bone to pick with one Moria. He had not seen her in decades. The woman who chose a Fae, and, even worse, a human, over him, a disgusting creature barely worth his thoughts. Unfortunately, when the split occurred between them, Moria left with many of Mot's prized possessions, including a mask made of Avian Changeling feathers, a pure white brick from the ice castle, and dozens of books about everything from shifters' current hairstyles to the strange mannerisms of sky faeries. It was not until recently that Mot had found time to reclaim his items. He was busy granting favors to the Daemons who lived around him; creatures would ask for guidance, food, and sometimes for his help in combat, and Mot rarely turned down a Daemon or Fae in need.
He spotted Moria's hut and subconsciously slowed his gait. How would he react to seeing her again? Could he handle it in a dignified manner and retrieve the items that rightfully belonged t him? He approached the door. It was not locked. Mot breathed deeply, held it for a moment, and then exhaled. Here we go. He pushed the door open and found not his past lover, but a ransacked house. Torn flyers and books lay everywhere, chairs were overturned, bits of food clung to the walls. Mot searched the area, and finding neither treasures nor Moria, he stepped back outside. The intruders had stolen valuable objects, and he knew where he needed to go, no matter how much it displeased him. Sighing with exasperation, Mot made his way toward the City of Thieves, where his books and trinkets must now reside. The journey would not be a short one, and having a companion or a guide along the way would be extremely welcome...

Well, that lead had led him nowhere. Except a few hours of hell. Rodi hated being in the Daemon Tunnels, even when he was being treated like a guest he still managed to feel like a slave. And all for what? For them to tell him they could not help him? Ugh. Rodi felt like plunging his spear into the heart of the nearest…Oh, but he would never do that. Rodi may not have been bored fae, but he was raised fae through and through. He would not murder out of anger. Now maiming! That was a possibility.
The young battle fae must go to the only other place that could possibly hold the information he needed. The City of Thieves. What a bother. Normally, this would be Cloti’s job. She was the one in charge of information and espionage. He preferred being the strategist and the muscle. But Cloti was on another mission at the moment and Rodi would never make any fae creature go alone into the Daemon Tunnels.
Rodi commenced with the pleasantries and farewells, which was fairly simple among the daemons. Unlike humans, they didn’t stick to stiff formalities and complicated procedures. Good thing, too. Rodi’s mood was extraordinarily foul. He felt bad for his companion…Mostly because he was very likely to take it out on her if she so much as looked at him. Rodi trained his garnet eyes straight ahead, hoping to death he could control himself.
The humans were getting tricky. They were starting to hide their prisoners in secret locations. Rodi’s companion had the mission of finding out where. Rodi was there for added protection. “Looks like we’re off to the City of Thieves, Mai.” Rodi growled, unaware that the daemon they were passing was headed in that same direction. “Let’s hope those flea-bitten shifters can offer more than what they gave us here.”
Rodi wasn’t always mean like that. When he was angry, however, he tended to hate everyone. The muse was actually showing a surprising amount of self-control at the moment.

Walking through the Daemon tunnels was quite uncomfortable for Mai. No open air, no outside light, and close to no life other than the wandering souls of the creatures that wandered around looking for hidden treasures. She felt disconnected from the nature above and was hoping that she was not looking too pale, though then again, she was not quite sure how she looked at all. She had put up a glamour on entrance into the tunnels. The last time she had been in the Tunnels, trouble had started for the basic fact of a Daemon not appreciating that a Fairy had been down there.
Her thoughts turned toward her mission. She was supposed to be finding the Human's prisoners. The...intelligent humans had started hiding their prisoners in secret locations though Mai pondered how that could be. Most that weren't of the Human species disliked humans so hiding prisoners in areas around other magical species meant there had to most likely have been a few bloody fights..."Blood," Mai realized, "We have to look for blood. If humans were down here most likely there had been some unhappy Daemon."
She looked over at her companion, Rodi. A found of the Song of Heroes. Usually he didn't tend to go on these kinds of missions but Mai assumed that Cloti had made him. He looked agitated and unsettled which was not the happiest thing to see. An angry Rodi was often a scary one. He was one who tended to take his anger out on who ever was around him, hopefully that did not add to the paleness of Mai's face.
Mai heard Rodi mention the City of Thieves before giving a rude remark as a Daemon passed them. She half expected Rodi to then inflict pain of some sort on the stranger. Hoping the Daemon was not interested in fighting Mai looked over at Rodi. "I guess it couldn't hurt. I'm sure there are at least a few prisoners being kept there, though most likely it will be hard getting to them with the city being of Humans And Shifters." [/blockquote]

Mot slowed his pace just slightly when he overheard the Fae mention the City. He turned his head. "Sir, Madame, would you join me? We are heading in the same direction, and being quite old, I would benefit from your protection." He well knew he would be find on his own; normally he did not need to get near an opponent to defeat him, but he missed company and, like all Daemons, loved stories. The three could spin tales throughout their journey...yes, they simply must come along, it would be such fun. "In return, I could furnish you each with an item or two...or I suppose some money, if it suits you." He bowed to the female and held a hand out to the male. "Call me Mot. And who do I have the pleasure of addressing...?"

Rodi glared at the poor girl, a snappy reply on the tip of his tongue. Stupid! Rodi did not intend to go to the City of Thieves in search of human prisoners. He was going for information. Rodi would never take a single water fairy on a rescue mission. He was only after a location. The shifters would be the most likely to have that information and they would be the most likely to sell it.
Of course, he had not explained this to her. His anger with her was unfair and entirely misdirected. That was not the point. As guilty as Rodi felt for his misguided wrath, the only thing that truly held him back was the sound of a voice. A daemon was speaking to them? The muse narrowed his eyes on the creature. He was offering a trade? Ignoring the offered hand, Rodi answered him directly.
“My name is Rodi. My companion is Mai. I will offer protection in exchange for safe passage into the city. Once inside, our contract will terminate.” It was a simple fae contract, but one that Rodi found useful. As Mai had pointed out, getting into The City would not be simple. If they had a daemon to smuggle them in, it would be possible without causing too much of a stir.

Mai's eyes narrowed. She didn't like the straightforwardness of Rodi and his contract, it was almost rude. But being rude was not what actually bugged Mai. He could have easily manipulated the contract and got more out of it than the Daemon would have realized. Like most Water Fairies, they enjoyed deception and working around the truth while at the same time being completely honest.
She considered being as sassy as Rodi seemed angry but knew it was a bad idea. He may have been younger (much younger) than Mai but he still intimidated her, and she wasn't one to go into lecture's about respecting elder Fae. She was not old yet, she was still quite young. So instead, she turned her attention to the Daemon that had asked for the companionship looked at him for a moment and decided to start walking ahead of the two. They could catch up or go at their own pace, either way Mai wasn't walking at all very fast. She was going at quite a slow pace. "Agreed yet?" She said looking behind herself.
'Last time I go searching for prisoners with someone who gets angry so easily,' she thought to herself, 'My adventures are usually fun.' [/size][/blockquote]

What funny creatures these Fae were. So fascinating. The water Faerie was beautiful and serene, and couldn't be too hard to get along with. The male, on the other hand, was easily irritated and seemed to be hiding something; the creature talked too quickly and scowled too much for Mot's liking. But it would have to do.
Mot stared at the female. "Of course I agree, pretty lass. If it pleases you," he took her arm in his, "I would love to hear a story. Perhaps one of your past, or an old Fae folktale?" He smiled gently at her, and then shot a neutral look at the male. "If you feel so inclined, warrior, you might spin a yarn as well. I do love a good story. I'm a collector of sorts. And stories are free and easy to come by."

Rodi rolled his eyes. He hoped this daemon would not prove to be a problem. Somehow, he managed to bite back his snarky retort. This was what leadership was all about. Neither the daemon nor his companion deserved his anger and he knew it. Where was Cloti when he needed her? She always made him feel better.
The battle fae caught up to them. “Before we start chumming it up, we should discuss our plans for entering the The City. That way, if we need anything we can pick them up when we pass through Spirit.” His voice was clipped, but otherwise controlled. Rodi’s temper was slowly starting to even out. If he could just punch something…
It would be close to dawn soon. They had taken up a nocturnal schedule while visiting the daemons, which meant it was almost time for dinner. Rodi could hunt then. Maybe running his spear through a thick, juicy hare would calm him down.
Ugh. Rodi was disgusted with himself and his need for violence. It made him wonder. If he had stayed human would he still be that way? Was it a core part of his personality? Or was it the influence of his particular type of fae magic?

Mai stiffened for a moment as the Daemon suddenly linked his arm with hers, but quickly relaxed. His skin seemed almost nonexistent, and felt as though she was merely touching bone which sent a shiver through her spine and not because of the Daemon's skin. Because of the type of Daemon he was. He seemed friendly enough....maybe there was no danger....
She looked toward Rodi hoping that Mot was not paying attention and silently mouthed "He may be dangerous. Watch yourself." Mai kept a straight face as she looked back to Mot so that he wouldn't be alarmed that they were prepared if he at any point decided to harm them. However, she did not feel any kind of danger being near him she did not see him as a danger.
Listening to Rodi's plans, she thought for a moment. She had not yet been inside the City so she had no idea of it's defenses or how it really even looked, but she did not dare to say a word about it. Mai did not want Rodi annoyed that she wasn't sure what the City held. Instead, she just kept her mouth quiet and looked toward Mot for him to tell of how they could enter the city. Noticing her rising tension and slight panic, Mot released Mai's arm somewhat sheepishly. It was not the first time a beautiful creature had shied away from him, and it wouldn't be the last either. Sighing, he glanced at Rodi. "Plans? Well, I suppose it would be smart to stock up on healing supplies in case of battle, seeing as I don't carry any with me. I know many Daemons who call the City home, but they may or may not want to help us should push come to shove. If either of you are in need of weaponry, I'm sure we can find that as well." He smiled. "I prefer to just use claw and fang in close battles, and I can feed from quite a good ways away." He looked back at Mai apologetically. "Sorry to have frightened you, my dear. I forget my appearance when I spot an attractive woman."
Mot also noticed Rodi's tension. The man looked fit to explode; perhaps more travel would not be beneficial this night. The sun would be up soon anyway. "Rodi, if you would, perhaps you could find some meat for our dinner? I'd go, but I'm sure you'll find prey much more quickly. I'll set up camp and we can stay here until nightfall. We'll take turns keeping watch; there are many thieving Daemons in the tunnels."

Rodi scowled at the man. Trust a daemon to avoid subtlety. He was thinking something along the lines of disguises and a place to hide. Announcing the entrance of two fae would be counter-productive to their quest. He glanced at Mai and rolled his eyes, still in a sour mood. Of course the daemon would be preparing for a fight. Not that Rodi minded fights. He would simply prefer to get to the City of Thieves without one.
His thoughts were broken by the daemon’s next suggestion. Rodi narrowed his eyes as he tried to decide whether this was a trap or not. He could easily become lost in the tunnels and traveling without a daemon host was suicide. He also did not want to leave Mai alone with the man. His garnet gaze turned questioningly towards his companion. So long as he stayed within sight of their camp, things should be fine.
“Are you hungry?” Rodi asked. He decided it would be better than asking, ‘Do you think this is a trap?’ If she did, then the fairy would hopefully answer with a ‘no’ and leave it at that. Mai was smart. That was why she worked for Cloti.
